My COSI Dilema
So we had monday off for President's Day and we (meaning me and my in-laws) took the kids (meaning mine and theirs) to COSI for the day. I had such a hard time having fun that I feel bad for it. I know the kids noticed it. I think I get in these environments and I get so worried of losing them. After all, I am really outnumbered! It really is my worst fear that one of them will get lost or stolen. So I have this dialog with myself afterward:

Me: Maybe I'm being too overly cautious. Am I being irrational?

Myself: Of course not!! They are your kids. You can NEVER be too cautious.

I: Ok, Helicopter Mom! Come on. Why go anywhere then. Just keep them home and lock them in a closet if you are going to be so anal about everything.

Me: Well, "I" does have a point. I mean, I take them places so they have fun and if I am so worried all the time am I really accomplishing that goal?

Myself: Who cares if YOUR having any fun. As long as THEY have fun, what does it matter?

I: It matters when you are so worried that NO ONE is having any fun. I mean really.

Me: Ok, so what do I do about it.

Myself: Well, if you really want to change it, and I'm not saying you should, maybe you should buy everyone bright florecent yellow t shirts and iron on "BEDDOES" with a giant number on the back. Then you can easily scan a crowd and find them anytime you need to.

I: Ok, that isn't a completely terrible idea, but how about having a bit more faith. Faith in yourself for teaching them well, faith in them that they learned something from you, and most importantly, faith in the Lord that he will take care of them if anything goes wrong.

Me: Well, those are both excellent ideas. I will be sure to say a prayer on my way to the store!

Yes... perhaps I am a bit schizophrenic...
