Hurricane Ike

Yes, even Columbus, Ohio wasn't spared from the wrath of Hurricane Ike on Sunday. At first, none of us thought anything of the winds kicking up and the advisories they were putting out. After we lost power, we hung out in the garage and watched the storm coming. After we went inside, the girls and some friends stayed out in the driveway enjoying the wind... until a HUGE tree on the street corner crashed down. That gave everyone a reality check as it was knocked over not at the branches, but the trunk. Turns out we were seeing winds with gusts up to 75mph.

Here is a video that some friends of ours did of the damage in their yard.

We spent quite a few hours without power but we were the lucky ones. Our power was back on before dark. There are many that are still without power! Some will be until Sunday. Westerville schools were closed Monday and Tuesday and I don't think Columbus schools have started back yet. It has been a mess!

Our property faired well since we only have one decent sized tree, but my immediate neighbor lost a rather large portion of hers. We were littered with branches and leaves and other debris from other yards, which we got all cleaned up on Monday. Nathanael even tried to pitch in and do a little raking himself. It was so cute, even the neighbor across from us stopped working to come over and take a picture of him.
