The Morning After OTC

Ok, I have been trying to stay away from politics and current events, mostly to keep my brain from exploding over everything going on.

But this story flipped me out bigtime!

So let's put aside the whole abortion thing because the discussion is usually useless, and let's just talk about the fact that this enables kids to take MAJOR medications that have MAJOR affects on the body without a parents knowledge.

Personally, I don't want my kids taking so much as a TYLENOL without my knowing. Am I being a controlling, helicopter mom? Maybe, but I have a point that is valid for any type of mom out there.

Here's one scenario that came to my mind:

Let's say your daughter took the Morning After Pill. Let's say she gets into an accident. Doesn't matter what kind, but let's say she ends up in the ER seriously hurt and incapacitated. Who do they call then to seek permission and information? THE PARENTS! But Mom and Dad have no idea that she took said pill prior to her accident. The hospital then administers emergency medication that has contradictions to that wonderfully convenient pill. Daughter then suffers major affects that could have been avoided.

Could this happen if she were taking any other OTC meds? Sure it could. But you see my point, don't you?

And no, I haven't been watching "House" lately... though Daniel has... Still, that has nothing to do with this!

So, I pledge to do something about this... I don't know what yet. It will probably involve letter writing, maybe phone calls, probably more blog posts, and even some facebook status updates, but if I can do more, I will.

This is a serious and potentially dangerous idea!
